Project Workshops

Hanami Shawl

Two Saturdays:  July 21st 12:30-2:30, August 25th 12:30-2:30  $65.00*

Instructor:  Jan Cornelius

Hanami Shawl has been inspired by the short but magical time of cherry trees blossoming in spring (Hanami or 花見 in Japanese means ‘flower viewing’ but mainly is referred to cherry blossom viewing and enjoyment in spring). The fleeting beauty of the delicate flowers with almost translucent petals, that bloom so vigorously, covering the bare branches in light pink snow. When you lift your head up and all you see is pink sky, with maybe a petal or two fluttering down to the ground from a too harsh of a wind gust, reminding of the bittersweet, short lived beauty of these blossoms.

It is an asymmetrical shawl worked sideways from a tip to its widest point featuring a budding twigs pattern and delicate lace edge.

This pattern requires the skill of an Advanced Beginner to an Intermediate Knitter as a starting point.

*Our Project Workshops require that Yarn del Sol yarns be used in the project.

Frida's Flowers

Third Sunday of Every Month from 11am to 1pm beginning April 15th.                       $20.00 per session*

Next Class Sunday, June 17th 11am to 1pm

Instructor:  Jan Cornelius

Designer Jane Crowfoot was inspired by Mexican Folk Art and the colorful dresses worn by artist Frida Kahlo when designing this piece.  Your creation, combined with your own personal color inspiration, will result in a one-of-a kind treasure work of art.

Each class we will gather to explore the flower motif of the month. This amazing blanket design will be taught with carefully explained lessons and hints for the sample motif.

The student will then have a month to finish the 3-5 identical remaining pieces before the next class.  Joining of the motifs, in the proper order, will be addressed at each meeting and will result in a completed piece by the final class.

To participate, a working knowledge of basic crochet is required.  Chain stitch, single, double, and half-double crochet will be covered during classes as a reminder only. Crochet classes are offered at Yarn del Sol, so come learn or brush up your skills in the next couple of months.

The workshop is not a difficult one, however it is NOT a “learn to crochet” experience.  Lots of help will be offered on color choices, reading, and crocheting the patterns so that each student will feel secure in accomplishing the motifs in a step by step easy to follow manner.

A hands-on approach, years of experience, patience, and FUN will be the foundation for this workshop.

*Yarn del Sol yarns need to be used in the project.
