Project Workshops

Morning Sky

Three Sundays:  Oct 14th 1:30-4:30pm, Oct 28th 1:30-3:30pm, Nov 4th 1:30-4:30pm      $70.00*

Instructor:  Elena Homans

There's more than one way you can knit a sweater. “Morning Sky” is knitted seamlessly from the bottom up, starting with the slightly flared lace hem. Short rows are worked at the back neck, otherwise, it is knit entirely in the round. Knit in a fingering or sport weight yarn, with approximately 3-5” of positive ease, results in an easy to wear year-round garment. Morning Sky top is so simple yet so elegant.

There is homework to be completed prior to the 1st session of this workshop. So, please be sure to sign up in advance.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN: bottom up seamless sweater construction, calculating gauge, math of using your gauge and making it work for your measurements, reading charts, basics of lace, twin stitches (variation of the short rows), sewn bind off.

PREREQUISITES:  Confident knitting & purling, knitting in the round, yarnover, simple increases & decreases.

*plus p[attern and materials.  Only Yarn del Sol yarns are to be used in the project.

Llama Drama Workshop with Casapinka

Sunday, September 30th

11:00am to 2:00pm Llama Drama Workshop with Casapinka  $75*

Peru was the travel destination for Llama Drama and was inspired by the colorful clothes, markets, and textiles of Peru.

If you haven’t tried mosaic knitting, please don’t be intimidated. You only use one color at a time and it is all garter stitch. Once you do the “business side” (the Right Side row), you simply do exactly what you did going back on the wrong side. So, a slipped stitch gets slipped, and a knit stitch gets knit. There is a separate file for written directions if you don’t enjoy charts.

*plus materials - with this class you will receive 10% off your Baah Yarn choices for the workshop. You will also receive 2 FREE Drop In Clinic sessions for followup with the Yarn del Sol teacher of your choice!

Goldfish Memory with Casapinka

Saturday, September 29th

Goldfish Memory Workshop  2:00pm to 5:00pm with Casapinka  $75.00*

Mira Cole from Baah will also be in the shop!!

Urban legend has it that a goldfish has a memory or attention span (I’ve heard both) of about 3 seconds, or the time it takes to swim around its bowl. I can be like this, and at those times, I just want a nice big knitting project that will keep me occupied while letting me watch bad eighties airplane movies on Youtube. In fact, I just saw a great one starring Cheryl Ladd. I can tell: you guys are jealous!

Slipped stitches, little garter stripes, bigger garter stripes, simple lace, stockinette stripes, that’s what you’ll find here.

This is a parallelogram and is knit on the bias (see schematic at left.) You need 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn, 400 yards each. I advise a very light skein, a bright or bolder skein, and something in between. If the colors are too similar the slipped stitches won’t show up.

Final Measurements
This is a parallelogram (see schematic)
Approximately 76” long by 17” deep

*plus materials - with this class you will receive 10% off your Baah Yarn choices for the workshop. You will also receive 2 FREE Drop In Clinic sessions for followup with the Yarn del Sol teacher of your choice!

Toph - Introduction to Short Row Colorwork

Two Saturdays:  Oct 6th & 20th 1:00pm to 4:00pm  $55.00*

Instructor:  Elena Homans

2-D and 3-D shaping at the same time?  Yep! Toph, the hat designed by Wooly Wormhead, is a brilliant example of short row colorwork taken on a whole different level of manipulation. It's a hat worked sideways with short rows in two different colors.  In corporating the crown and brim shaping worked simultaneously adds that extra something that makes the knitter feel so clever.  This hat design will show you how to transform simple garter stitch to completely different form.  The Toph hat would make a wonderful holiday gift too.

In this workshop you will learn short row colorwork, German short rows, adding a new color and weaving it in as you go, directional chart reading, grafting in Garter itch.

*plus materials and pattern.  Yarn del Sol yarns need to be used for the project.

Next Class Sunday, Sept 16th 11am to 1pm

Instructor:  Jan Cornelius

Designer Jane Crowfoot was inspired by Mexican Folk Art and the colorful dresses worn by artist Frida Kahlo when designing this piece.  Your creation, combined with your own personal color inspiration, will result in a one-of-a kind treasure work of art.

Each class we will gather to explore the flower motif of the month. This amazing blanket design will be taught with carefully explained lessons and hints for the sample motif.

The student will then have a month to finish the 3-5 identical remaining pieces before the next class.  Joining of the motifs, in the proper order, will be addressed at each meeting and will result in a completed piece by the final class.

To participate, a working knowledge of basic crochet is required.  Chain stitch, single, double, and half-double crochet will be covered during classes as a reminder only. Crochet classes are offered at Yarn del Sol, so come learn or brush up your skills in the next couple of months.

The workshop is not a difficult one, however it is NOT a “learn to crochet” experience.  Lots of help will be offered on color choices, reading, and crocheting the patterns so that each student will feel secure in accomplishing the motifs in a step by step easy to follow manner.

A hands-on approach, years of experience, patience, and FUN will be the foundation for this workshop.

*Yarn del Sol yarns need to be used in the project.
